Illustration Friday–Pattern

GirlBlackPatternTrees

They told her that there was a pattern to everything. It might not seem obvious right now, but there was. She would find out. It was part of growing up.

It wasn’t what she wanted to hear, that same old banality that everyone repeated. She didn’t want to be told that there was a pattern to everything. She wanted to know how to design a life that would stand out from the common pattern.

The problem was, if anyone did have this wisdom to dispense and she followed it, she would find herself enmeshed right back into the human fabric, a part of yet another pattern.

This is a wickedly cool drawing. I love the patterns of black and white. I'll have to think about what you said, though....I'm not sure patterns are such a bad thing. Following others, yes, perhaps, but we are all interconnected, and our interactions DO make a pattern, regardless. If they didn't, social interaction would be completely chaotic.

That's true. I'm not saying patterns are a bad thing - I meant they are rather inevitable, however original you try to be.

Following others isn't necessarily a bad thing - depending on who we follow and as long as it's not done blindly, but with some healthy self-understanding, picking paths that could work for us and discarding those that wouldn't. It's rather like being equipped with a map, I suppose. You see what other people have done or thought about, and you come up with new possibilities that mightn't have occurred to you on your own.

Thank you for visiting and for liking the drawing. You have some interesting prints on your blog and I'm going over to comment.
