Photo of the Week–Shewanti

Photos – Kadambini Panse

I love white Shewanti (Chrysanthemum Indicum) flowers – and the pink and yellow ones too. I’m waiting for the adjoining Crepe Myrtle to bloom next – it’s grown quite a bit since I transferred it to the south corner in direct sunlight.

Sketchbook–Bank Teller

BankTeller1March end. So I went to the bank. Naturally I had to go in the afternoon, and the sun was scalding hot. I love summer though. I associate it with pink water-melon slices, tall glasses of sugar-cane juice with crushed mint, bright yellow jacaranda trees, the shimmering silk of my Ma’s sari, and (amongst other music) Nana Mouskouri’s ‘Amapola’ and Boccherini’s ‘La Musica Nocturna de Madrid’.

Illustration Friday–Shades

Shades

Different shades in a relationship.

Speaking of shades, I read Georgette Heyer’s  ‘These Old Shades’ the other day; the local book-seller got me the entire collection, so I’m going really Heyer-wire.

Sketchbook–The Chat

PeopleTalkingI’ve been listening to some interesting art podcasts while I work. It’s entertaining – and inspiring and educational too -  to listen to how other artists work and about the experiences they’ve had. A good list can be found on itunes.

Illustration–Inkscape Girl

Girl1

Playing with the calligraphy tool in Inkscape in my break. I’m having a very busy week with 40 new illustrations, rough pencils by Friday, final pencil drawings by next Friday, and color final illustrations in the following two weeks. The work is immensely interesting and better than what I’ve done so far, definitely a valuable addition to the art portfolio.
